Each year this strictly limited edition coin is among our most sought after, its release eagerly awaited by collectors and lovers of gold alike. Containing almost 40 grammes of 22 carat gold – five times the gold of a single Sovereign – the £5 Brilliant Uncirculated Gold Sovereign is hugely impressive. And in 2013 a design that has become not only a numismatic classic but also a sign of elegance, of quality and of reliability, is back – the classic St George and the dragon returns.
In 1815 Benedetto Pistrucci, a famed Italian gem engraver, came to Britain and to The Royal Mint under the patronage of the Prince Regent. A year later he created a design of such mastery that it has endured for almost two centuries. His classically inspired interpretation of the legend of St George slaying the dragon has become renowned not only for its beauty but also as a marker of taste and of excellence, ensuring the Sovereign is desired and coveted the world over.
Year on year this extremely limited issue sells out, for it is the aspiration of collectors and ideal for a precious moment that deserves the gift of glorious gold.

In November 2013, the German government will issue a €10 collector’s coin on the theme of «Heinrich Hertz: 125 years of electromagnetic waves». This coin commemorates the discovery of electromagnetic waves by the physicist Heinrich Hertz (1857–1894).
The collector’s coin is being issued in two versions: a mint-condition coin made from a cupronickel alloy, and a higher-value collector’s quality silver coin with a proof-like finish. The silver coin weighs 16 grams. The alloy is made up of 625 parts silver to 375 parts copper, indicated by the inscription «Silber 625».
According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the coin was designed by the artist Othmar Kukula from Neuhausen, Germany.
The jury made the following comments on the winning design:
«The coin’s obverse shows a Hertzian dipole, which represents the discovery of electromagnetic waves. The field lines of the Hertzian dipole are the key element of the wave propagation proved by Hertz’s experiments. The design also successfully incorporates the unit of frequency named after Hertz (Hz) and the researcher’s signature.
The delicate outline of an eagle on the reverse side of the coin skilfully mirrors the structure of the lines on the obverse side. The stars and markings complete the harmonious design of the coin.»
The coin’s obverse shows a Hertzian dipole, which represents the discovery of electromagnetic waves.
The reverse features an eagle framed by the words BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, the value and denomination, the letter «G» for the federal mint in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, the year 2013, and the twelve stars of Europe.
The coin’s smooth edge is embossed with the inscription: «LICHT IST EINE ELEKTRISCHE ERSCHEINUNG (LIGHT IS AN ELECTRICAL PHENOMENON).»
The mint condition coins can be purchased at all Bundesbank branches.

One of the most dramatic, most desirable Year of the Horse Lunar commemoratives we have seen, this superb legal tender coin is a sensational synthesis of pure .999 silver, High Relief sculpture AND genuine agate!
A compelling motif, depicting three horses galloping from right to left, this ghostly work of numismatic art is precisely carved out of a 47mm diameter piece of authentic two-coloured agate – a lustrous variety of quartz notable for the fineness of its grain and the vibrancy of its colours. The very first coin to be embedded with a double layered, single piece of this eye-catching stone, demand for this official legal tender issue is bound to be huge.
Indeed, given that this coin is destined to be one of the most highly sought after legal tender issues of 2014, it is a great shock that the worldwide mintage has been set so low. Incredibly, the limited edition of this gargantuan 3oz numismatic marvel has been restricted to a mere 888!With our allocation naturally comprising a tiny number of coins – each beautifully presented within a large timber case complete with a viewing window, and a Certificate of Authenticity – we highly recommend immediate action. A masterpiece of modern minting, this awe-inspiring legal tender coin is sure to sell out at super speed.

Another coin from the series “Bridges of the Czech Republic“ issued by the Czech National Bank, this time designed by academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů.
The railway bridge in Žampach is one of the highest and oldest railway bridges in central Europe. Its construction began in 1898 and it was built in two years.
The bridge is located on the railway line of the “Sázava Pacific“ which runs along the Sázava river, between the stations Borek-Žampach and Luka pod Medníkem, south of the town of Jílové and 12 km east from the confluence of rivers Sázava and Vltava. The bridge has seven arches with a span of 12.5 metres; it was built from coarse-grained granite. The highest arch towers 41 metres above an abyss called “Tomcat“ and the Studený (Cold) creek. Total length of the bridge is 109 metres.
On the obverse side of the coin three stylized heraldic animals are depicted in the upper part above a bottom view of the bridge and the denomination of the coin 5,000 CZK, name of the series “BRIDGES“ and “Czech Republic“. The reverse side features a front view of the bridge with the legend “2013 – railway bridge in Žampach“.

The Horse is the 7th animal in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. People born in the Year of the Horse are said to be libertarian, creative, emancipated, intelligent, generous and loyal to their friends. The obverse of the coin depicts a Horse within a decorative frieze as well as the Chinese ideogram for the Year of the Horse.
The maximum mintage on the two coins from France is not clear, but if following the lead of some of the previous releases from Monnaie de Paris then we can expect the Silver coin may have a maximum mintage of 10,000 and the Gold coin a maximum mintage of 1000. You can see some of the previous releases listed on Talisman Coins.

For the first time ever, two floral emblems are emblazoned on the reverse of the £1 coin. Struck in brilliant silver to Proof standard, this coin is part of the beautiful new series from The Royal Mint.
The £1 Flora Coin Series has been specially designed to commemorate 30 years of the £1 coin – a coin which now stands as a symbol of Great Britain across the world. It is also the first time that the £1 coin has borne a floral design since 1984; and so promises to be a set of coins that all collectors, old and new, will want to possess.
The first coin of the series to be released is the coin for England. The two emblems have been chosen to represent certain characteristics of the nation. The rose and the oak combined are symbolic of the majesty, honour, strength and pride of England and its people. The emblems chosen for the other three coins will also be reflective of the countries that they are celebrating: Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.Discover the pride of Wales captured in national floral emblems on a richly symbolic £1 coin. The ‘Land of my Fathers’ is represented by the daffodil, traditionally sported on St David’s Day and also the leek, the ancient symbol of Wales.
Designed by heraldic artist Timothy Noad, this is the first time floral designs have been featured since the best-selling series of 1984. The £1 coin for Wales comes with a display case to hold all four coins in the series, including the £1 silver Proof coin already released and £1 coins for Scotland and Northern Ireland to be released in 2014.
