Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release a series of coins on behalf of the Isle of Man Government which celebrate the 2014 Winter Olympics which take part in Sochi.
The 22nd Winter Olympic Games will be held from 7th to 23rd February 2014 in Sochi, Russia. These are the first Winter Olympics (and first Olympics altogether) for the Russian Federation as the 1980 Moscow Olympics were in the Soviet Union. The Sochi Olympic Park will be built by the Black Sea coast in the Imeretin Valley and will be the most compact Winter Games in its history as it will be possible to get from one venue to another in just a matter of minutes.
The four coins in the series depict some of the ninety-eight events being held across fifteen disciplines of seven winter sports and feature the following designs:
Available in Cupro Nickel, Proof Sterling Silver and Fine 12gm Silver, each coin has three snowflakes falling around the Olympians and the coins are also available with these snowflakes specially coloured so that they look frosty. The obverse of each coin carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
