Coin "Kicking Horse"

Celebrate the Year of the Horse with the 2014 $1 1 Oz Silver Horse from the Royal Australian Mint’s Prestige Lunar Series.

The “Kicking Horse” was a popular image during the Ming Emperor Chénghuá era from 1465 to 1487. The design commemorates the Lunar calendar, which is a 12-year cycle, that attaches characteristics to people born in those years. People born in 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014 are influenced by the Year of the Horse and are said to be intelligent, confident and independent.

The obverse features a portrait of Australia’s monarch, Queen Elizabeth. The words ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA 2014 and 1 DOLLAR or 10 DOLLARS circle the rim.
