Thomas Jefferson’s Liberty First Spouse Gold Coin.
Thomas Jefferson was the United States of America’s 3rd President who took the office after John Adams from the year 1801 to 1809. President Jefferson however became the United States’ President when he was already a widower for 19 years after the death of her wife, Martha, in 1782. To make the First Spouse Program in continuity, the 2005 Presidential $1 Coin Act concluded that a President who served in the office without a First Spouse will each be represented with a First Spouse Gold Coins featuring Lady Liberty in the obverse.
he obverse of the coin portrays the Draped Bust Half-Cent image of Lady Liberty was originally designed by Robert Scot, the United States Mint Chief Engraver, from Philadelphia. That image of Lady Liberty was first produced between the year 1800 and 1809, during which Jefferson served as the President of the country. The inscriptions also includes “In God We Trust-2007”, “Liberty”, “3rd Presidency” and the Presidential term of “1801-1809”, as well as the “W” which carries the mint mark of the gold coins. During the minting, Phebe Hemphill was assigned to re-sculpture the image used on the obverse side of the coins.
On the reverse side of the coins, it features the monument of Thomas Jefferson and the inscriptions on the monument which reads:
“Here was buried Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, of the statue of Virginia for religious freedom and the father of the University of Virginia. Born April 2, 1743, O.S. Died July 4, 1826”.
The same side also has the inscriptions of “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “$10” that represents the denomination or face value, “½ oz” as the coin’s gold content, and”.9999 Pure Gold” stating its purity. Charles Vickers was handed over the job as the designer and sculptor of the reverse side.
