The Mint of Poland presents a unique set of two coins with wedding motifs. Decorative elements depicted on the coins have symbolic meanings. A heart-shaped synthetic ruby as symbol of love and passion embellishes the pure silver coin. In the past rubies were given to young couples as amulets to protect them from deceit.

Gold that covers the second coin of the set refers to all spiritual and material richness that shall accompany the newlyweds on their common path.

Wedge tailed eagle silver proofs

Wedge tailed eagle silver proofs

It would be a fairly quiet month for the Perth Mint if it were not for the release of two new versions of the superb John Mercanti designed Wedge-Tailed Eagle proof silver coin. A standard proof silver version of the previous high-relief coin will undoubtedly be the popular one and while it’s lost a little of it’s impact, it’s a larger coin at 40mm because it doesn’t have to be as thick, and the mintage is half as much, so expect it to fly. The second version, a 5oz high-relief silver is gorgeous. Both have been available in the US for a while, being sold exclusively at GovMint.

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle is Australia’s largest bird of prey and one of the biggest eagles in the world. Found throughout mainland Australia, Tasmania and southern New Guinea, the WedgeTailed Eagle has a wingspan of up to 2.7 metres, and displays a long, wedge-shaped tail and feathered legs. This majestic bird is known to soar through the sky for hours on end, frequently reaching altitudes of up to 2,000 metres. In the heat of the day, the eagle makes use of hot thermal air currents that drift up from the ground to reach these dizzying heights, whilst expending little energy.

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle can be found from sea level areas to alpine regions, though they favour forested land and open country, to rainforests and coastal heaths. They can often be seen perched in trees and on rocks and cliffs, from where they have a clear view of their surroundings, enabling them to defend their territory and identify prey.

The coin’s reverse depicts an impressive Wedge-Tailed Eagle in mid-flight as it prepares to land on a tree branch. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, the 2014 year-date and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Designed by John Mercanti.

Animal Architects: Caterpillar and Chrysalis

Animal Architects: Caterpillar and Chrysalis

This stunning coin is the third in the Royal Canadian Mint’s popular series that depicts the architects of Canada’s natural world — including the Monarch caterpillar, which encases itself in a chrysalis before emerging as a beautiful butterfly.

This familiar little creature inches around in bright yellow, black and white stripes until it turns into the widely-recognized Monarch butterfly. The Monarch sports a distinct orange and black pattern, and is the most widespread butterfly in North America. The little caterpillar is considered an architect because of the intricate cocoon it spins for itself in its chrysalis stage: after spinning a silk pad on a twig or leaf, it will hang from it by its last legs in a ‘J’ shape. This phase leads to hormonal changes, and eventually, the metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly.

This coin is a striking addition to any insect-, Canadiana- or nature-themed collection, or those featuring colour and photo-image designs.

Animal Architects: Caterpillar and Chrysalis

Designed by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant, your coin features a beautifully detailed side profile of a Monarch caterpillar. Selective colour application showcases the caterpillar's bright yellow, black and white stripes as it crawls along a bright green milkweed leaf – a plant that plays an integral part in the Monarch's early life cycles. A large chrysalis is engraved in the background as a reminder of the Monarch's next stage, at which time it will enclose itself during its metamorphosis into one of Canada's most recognizable butterflies.

The Seven Sacred Teachings: Respect

The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled the second of seven coins in a series Honoring teachings of the First Nations people of Canada.

Your life rides on the buffalo's back. Aboriginal people have understood this relationship since time immemorial, and have long respected the buffalo for the food, clothing and tools it provided. The fact that this great beast gave every part of its being to sustain them made the buffalo's life greater than theirs, not less. Buffalo could thrive without the people, but the people could not live without the buffalo, and they were humbled by the profound respect it showed them year after year.

Respect is a cornerstone of Aboriginal life. It means living with dignity and a reverence for the land and all living things. From respect flow kindness and a willingness to share; only taking what is necessary; not wasting; and giving away that which is no longer needed.

The Seven Sacred Teachings: Respect

Respect is one of the lessons in the Seven Sacred Teachings practiced by Aboriginal people throughout North America for a full and happy life. While variations of these teachings do exist across the continent, this diversity only enriches them and underscores the universality of their wisdom.

Coin was designed by Métis artist Nathalie Bertin who creates a powerful image of a great, benevolent buffalo with an abstract figure lying on the buffalo's back in a position of comfort and security; the eagle feather in the figure's hand is an important ceremonial object often given as a sign of respect. The background pattern of sage leaves reinforces the buffalo's teachings.

Airplanes from World War II

New commemorative coin series depicting important milestones of aviation starting with airplanes from World War II. More than 2000 years of aviation: from kites and gliders to supersonic flight.

On the obverse (coins have the same obverse) is depicted the year of issue, the nominal value and the coat of arms of the Republic of Burundi.

Airplanes from World War II

Coin 'Yakolev Yak-7B'
The coin is dominated by a splendid full and vivid colour design portraying a Russian airplane and the name of the series "History of Aviation". The unique design highlights the particular landscape and dynamics of the plane that seems to come out of the coin and continue his journey.

When in 1939 was issued Yak-1, designers, having taken it for the basis, have developed double trainer fighter UTI-26. It has left on tests after I-26 and has soon been adopted to series production under mark Yak-7UTI. It is necessary to tell, that it was a unique double fighter of new generation. The Yak-7UTI, as well as its subsequent version Yak-7B, during war have played an exclusive role for pilots preparation.

Coin 'PZL P.11'
The coin is dominated by a splendid full and vivid colour design portraying a Polish airplane and the name of the series "History of Aviation". The unique design highlights the particular landscape and dynamics of the plane that seems to come out of the coin and continue his journey.

The PZL P.11 was a Polish fighter aircraft, designed in the early 1930s by PZL in Warsaw. It was briefly considered to be the most advanced fighter aircraft design in the world. The PZL P.11 served as Poland's primary fighter defence in the Polish campaign of 1939, but by that point was outdated due to rapid advances in aircraft design in comparison to more advanced contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane and Messerschmitt Bf 109.

Coin 'Messerschmitt BF 109'
The coin is dominated by a splendid full and vivid colour design portraying a German airplane and the name of the series "History of Aviation". The unique design highlights the particular landscape and dynamics of the plane that seems to come out of the coin and continue his journey.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109, often called Me 109 (most often by Allied pilots and aircrew), was a German World War II fighter aircraft designed by Willy Messerschmitt and Robert Lusser during the early to mid-1930s. It was one of the first truly modern fighters of the era, including such features as all-metal monocoque construction, a closed canopy, a retractable landing gear, and was powered by a liquid-cooled, inverted-V12 aero engine.

Gods of Olympus – Poseidon

The Perth Mint is pleased to present the second release in the Gods of Olympus series. In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was worshipped as the God of the Sea.

Historically, Poseidon was always portrayed as a mature man with a fully-grown beard, and equipped with his best known weapon, the trident, which he used to shake the earth, shatter rocks and create storms, causing devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. His other symbols include a bull, dolphins, horse and fish.

Poseidon was one of six children and the second of three brothers, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, born to Rhea and Cronus, the ruler of the Titans.  Having overthrown their father, the three brothers divided the universe between them. Zeus took control of the heavens, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld.

The coin’s reverse depicts a bearded Poseidon riding the waves on his chariot pulled by two hippocampi, clutching his trident, with dolphins porpoising in the background. The design includes the inscription POSEIDON and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
