• A FIRST: Includes a black light! The artistry of the reverse can be appreciated in any light, but viewing it under a black light (included) activates the special technology that adds an intense vibrancy to the lightning bolts.
• Crafted in 99.99% pure silver with a limited mintage of 8,000, this coin conveys the beauty and intensity of nature's fury.
• World-class technology and a stunning image of the Canadian landscape mean that this awe-inspiring coin is sure to be sought after by collectors.
• Your coin is GST/HST exempt.
About the Design:Designed by two Canadian artists, Tony Bianco and Arnold Nogy, your coin presents a stormy natural landscape. A lone eastern white pine, shaped by steady winds, rises from a small rocky island in Ontario's Georgian Bay. In the distance, stylized forests cower under a stormy sky that seems to glow with energy as Mother Nature unleashes her power. Viewing the reverse under a black light (included) activates the coin's specialized technology, allowing the lightning bolts to radiate across the sky with a stunning life-like intensity and exceptional luminosity.

• In Canada, thunderstorms are most common in the interior provinces and much less frequent in the country's three coastal regions: Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic. As an example, Toronto, Ontario recorded more than 15,000 lightning flashes between 1999 and 2008, compared to Vancouver, British Columbia, which recorded just over 100 in the same time frame.
• Canada's thunderstorm hot zones include the Rocky Mountain foothills of Alberta, southern Saskatchewan, southern Manitoba, and Ontario.
• Thunderstorms in Canada occur primarily in June, July, and August. During these summer months, lightning flashes every 3 seconds.
• On average, Canada experiences more than 2 million lightning flashes annually.
Packaging:Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box.

The coin Sir Winston Churchill

The coin Sir Winston Churchill

Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of a new uncirculated cupro nickel collector's coin issued on behalf of the Isle of Man Government which commemorates a man considered to be one of the Greatest Britons of all time – Sir Winston Churchill.

Sir Winston Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.  Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th Century, he was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer and an artist.

Churchill was also the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.  At the forefront of politics for 50 years, he held many political and cabinet positions before becoming Prime Minister following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain in May 1940.  His absolute refusal to consider defeat or surrender encouraged British resistance, especially during the early days of the war.  Churchill was particularly well known for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people.  He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory of Nazi Germany had been secured.

After the Conservative Party lost the General Election in 1945, Churchill became Leader of the Opposition but returned as Prime Minister after the Conservative won the 1951 Election.  He retired in 1955.  Upon his death, Queen Elizabeth II granted him the honour of a state funeral which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen in history.

Named Greatest Briton of all time in 2002, Churchill is widely regarded as being among the most influential people in British history and to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the death of this amazing political figure, this IOM coin features a portrait of Sir Winston Churchill giving his exceptionally famous ‘V for Victory’ sign.

The obverse of the coin carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.  Available in Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver, all are produced to the highest quality and the precious metal coins have been struck four times to produce the famous Pobjoy Proof finish.  For Gold sizes please contact the Mint.

This beautiful collector coin is part of the Animals of the Provinces series, which is the third coin series minted in honour of Finland's historic provinces. The first collector coin of Ostrobothnia launched by Mint of Finland in 2011 depicts tar burning, which is a traditional Ostrobothnian industry. For the Provincial buildings series, Ostrobothnia received in 2013 a coin commemorating the traditional Ostrobothian house.

Stoat reminds us of the ancient livelihood of trapping

Quick as a stoat is a familiar phrase to many Finnish people. The stoat, a small member of the weasel family, is lightning fast when threatened. Stoats usually make their nests below ground or in piles of rocks. Come winter, the stoat changes colour from brown to snow-white. Only the tip of the animal's tail stays black. As the emblematic animal of Ostrobothnia, the stoat reminds us of the ancient livelihood of trapping.

Collector coin to mark the 90 th anniversary of the Nobel Prize to Richárd Zsigmondy

Collector coin to mark the 90 th anniversary of the Nobel Prize to Richárd Zsigmondy

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank will issue a collector coin to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Nobel Prize to Richárd Zsigmondy and the 150 th anniversary of his birth. Richárd Zsigmondy was an outstanding figure of colloid chemistry. In 2925, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for demonstrating the heterogeneous nature of colloid solutions and for the invention of the ultramicroscope. His invention helped confirm the existence of nanoparticles, and therefore he is considered the founder of today’s nanotechnology. The coin is the fourth in the series of collector coins presenting Hungarian Nobel Prize Laureates launched by the MNB in 2012. (Coins issued as part of the series are: Albert Szent-Györgyi, 2012; Jenő Wigner, 2013 and Róbert Bárány 2014.) The centre of the obverse of the commemorative coin bears a representation of an ultramicroscope receiving beams of light. The mint year ‘2015’ and the mint mark ‘BP’ are positioned below the representation. The edge of the coin is inscribed on the left with the value numeral and the inscription ‘FORINT’ and, on the right, with the inscription ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’. The reverse of the collector coin bears a portrait of Richárd Zsigmondy on the left. On the right, the inscriptions ‘ZSIGMONDY’, ‘RICHÁRD‘, ‘1865-1929’, ‘NOBEL-DÍJ’ and ‘1925’ are placed in parallel lines below each other. The initials of designer Fanni Király are positioned on the lower edge of the coin. The oval-shaped coin is 30x25 mm in diameter and has a smooth edge. The silver coin is struck in .925 fine silver and weighs 12.5 grams. The non-ferrous metal coin is produced from an alloy of copper (75%) and nickel (25%). It weighs 10.3 grams and has the same size and coin design as the silver version. From 2014, each precious metal commemorative coin will be issued in a less expensive non-ferrous metal version to benefit collectors who wish to buy the same artistic theme at a more affordable price. By issuing lower-priced versions, the MNB and the Hungarian Mint would also like to encourage younger generations to collect commemorative coins.

Gold coin Battle of Iwo Jima

Gold coin Battle of Iwo Jima

Gold coin Battle of Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima – a small and virtually insignificant island before the war which was home to roughly one thousand inhabitants became the scene of the one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War. The five-day victorious battle of the American army and its alllies against the resolute Japanese army resulted in tens of thousands of casualties on both sides. The brutal assault which began on  February 19th, 1945, is the subject of a new issue from the End of the Second World War series, prepared for coin collectors and history buffs by the  Czech Mint.

The United States entered the Second World War following the attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy on the naval base in Pearl Harbor. It then began to repair the damage caused by Japan and reclaimed a large part of Southeast Asia and a number of islands in the Pacific. One of these happened to be Iwo Jima, which at the time served the Japanese as a strategic airstrip. 70,000 American soldiers boarded ships and attacked the island in two waves. The enemy commander Kuribayashi had “only” 21,000 men available and it was clear to him that fighting meant mass suicide. Nevertheless, his army demonstrated immense determination and ingenuity. They bravely defended their positions and attacked from underground tunnels and bunkers built under the Suribachi volcano. It took five days before the Americans and allies were able to cut off the volcano from the rest of the island.

The photograph taken by war photographer Joe Rosenthal showing six soldiers raising the American flag on the peak of Suribachi was seen round the world and has now also become the subject of the reverse of this new gold coin. While the enemy at that time had yet to be defeated, the photo gave the American troops strength and a much-needed boost for the rest of the several-week battle. The battle for Iwo Jima ended on March 26th, 1945, with enormous loss of life but victory for the American and allied army.

The designer of the 5 NZD Smart coin is sculptor and medal maker Jakub Orava, the artist behind all the templates of all the issues of the exceptional Czech Mint series End of the Second World War. The obverse is dominated by a likeness of Queen Elizabeth II along with the particulars of the coin and small crosses which mark the personal involvement of the ruler in the course of the war. The minting run for the Smart coin has been set at a mere 200 pieces. Considering the attractive subject and quality craftsmanship, a great deal of interest from collectors can be expected. So don’t wait and reserve your coin in time!
