The Super Senses $1 aluminium bronze coin is the first design in The Perth Mint's 2014 Young Collectors Super Powers series, which explores human attributes enhanced by technology.
The Super Senses coin represents the five senses of the human body - sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch – which are detected through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and nerve endings throughout the body.
The coin’s reverse depicts a coloured superhero poised on a rooftop high above the city, using his x-ray vision and sonic hearing to see and listen to the city around him. As well as the inscription SUPER SENSES, the design also includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the 2014 year-date are featured on the coin’s obverse.
This coin is also available in an album, designed to fit all six coins in the series. Please note that the coin album is not available for purchase separately.

The five senses work together to let the brain know what is going on around us. They can encourage us to communicate with other people, animals and our surroundings, and help to keep us safe by warning us of any danger. Imagine being able to see through walls, through human flesh or to know who was knocking on your door before you answer it! Ever wondered what it would be like to single out one sound or voice from a noisy room? This exciting new Young Collectors series explores human attributes enhanced by technology.
Forthcoming releases: Invisibility, Cybernetics, Flight, Weather Control, Super Strength.
