‘Portrait of a Young Man’ by Raphael Santi

The Mint of Poland is delighted to announce the series Missing Works of Art which presents the most precious works of museum and sacral art that were lost during World War II and despite hundreds of studies they have never been found.

The first coin in the series is dedicated to one of the most renowned works by Raphael Santi - ‘Portrait of a Young Man’.

This exceptional piece of the highest craftsmanship combines a unique theme, original shape and multitude of decorations in the form of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals, digital printing and selectively gold-plated ornaments. The coin with a faithful replica of the famous painting makes the perfect, unforgettable gift for every lover of art.

The obverse depicts an empty frame which symbolizes the theme of the series. In the lower part of the coin – a profile effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and inscriptions: UTRACONE DZIEŁA SZTUKI (the name of the series in Polish), m/w (the mint mark), 1 DOLLAR (the face value), NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), ELIZABETH II and the year of issue (2014). At the bottom – the hallmark: Ag 999.

New Lithuanian coin dedicated to cinema

A 10 litas collectors’ silver coin dedicated to cinema was issued on 31st of March 2014. Coin dedicated to cinema (from the series “Lithuanian Culture").

The obverse of the coin features a stylized coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania, which is surrounded by the inscriptions LIETUVA 2014, 10 LITŲ. The mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint is impressed on the obverse of the coin.

New Lithuanian coin dedicated to cinema

On the reverse of the coin, a stylized composition of the cinema creation symbols — film cameras and film reels — is artistically depicted. Designed by Rūta Ničajienė.

On the edge of the coin LIETUVOS KULTŪRA*KINAS* (LITHUANIAN CULTURE*CINEMA*) is inscribed twice.

The Moose

Designed by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant, your coin depicts a profile portrait of a moose in its natural habitat. In this lovely portrait, the moose’s head, neck, and shoulders are presented from the right side. The image details the moose’s amazing antlers, which rise from its forehead just above its gentle eyes. Its tall, mule-like ears jut out above the antlers—an arrangement believed to help amplify sound and augment the moose’s sense of hearing. The moose’s wet, bushy fur, large round snout, and long dangling dewlap are rendered in beautiful detail as the moose looks back over its right shoulder at the viewer.  In the background we see a northern wetland lined with dense aquatic vegetation. A pond or lake gives way to a coniferous forest and, in the distance, rocky foothills.

Black Rhinoceros

The Mint of Poland is delighted to present the coin of the “SOS to the World – Endangered Animal Species” series, which is dedicated to the Black rhinoceros.

This coin with a precisely mapped image of a rhinoceros stands out with the great integrity and perfect harmony of every detail.

The charm of the coin is complemented by its packaging with an outline of animals to be featured in this series. It is housed in a box depicting an image of a rhinoceros designed specifically to house this coin. The coin celebrates the beauty of wild nature and at the same time reminds us about the greatest care, which should be given to species being at risk of extinction.

In the central part of the coin – the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of  Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Below – inscriptions: Ag 999 (the hallmark), m/w (the mint mark). Along the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), 1 DOLLAR (the face value), and the year od issue – 2014.

Black Rhinoceros

In 2013 the coin series Nature’s Eyes started with the Amur Leopard. It is already thought to be one of the most beautiful animal coins of the last years. Now, in early 2014, the longingly expected second coin is issued: Nature’s Eyes – Bubo Bubo. Just like the first issue, this coin fascinates with the perfect illusion of a real eye, masterly accomplished through an innovative technique.

The eyes are often quoted as mirror to the soul, whether human or animal eyes. Nature’s Eyes not only convince with spectacular designs but also tell the fate of endangered species. It features the Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo Bubo).

Nature’s Eyes Bubo Bubo Coin

The Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of eagle owl resident in much of Eurasia. It is sometimes called the European Eagle-Owl and is, in Europe where it is the only member of its genus besides the Snowy Owl.  It is one of the largest species of owls.

The Eurasian Eagle Owl is largely nocturnal in activity, as are most owl species. The call of the Eagle Owl is a deep resonant ooh-hu with emphasis on the first syllable for the male, and a more high-pitched uh-Hu for the female. Each member of an Eagle Owl population can be identified by means of its vocalizations.

The Mint of Poland is jubilant to present the „Happy Birthday” coin – an unforgettable gift to celebrate this special day! The coin shows elements which are associated with fun and a successful birthday party – serpentines, balloons and a birthday cake.  Depicted colorful elements relate to the birthday joy we encounter on that special occasion.

The coin was specifically constructed in a way that enables to insert a photo of the birthday person on a dedicated surface of the coin.

On the obverse there is a showy birthday cake decorated with small stars and flowers and with burning candles on its top.  On the right – the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Below – an inscription: ELIZABETH II. For more than a billion years, Mother Nature’s most precious treasure was hidden a hundred miles beneath the Earth’s surface. Over time, a hint of the exceptional bounty, the world’s rarest diamonds, was discovered glinting in an anthill.

A selection of seven precious Argyle Pink Diamonds (approximately 0.11 carats), have been delicately hand set into each ingot.

Polished to perfection, this exclusive investment piece depicts an anthill embedded with five Argyle Pink Diamonds, and an ant holding a sixth diamond, framed by the inscriptions BEYOND RARE and ARGYLE PINK DIAMONDS.

The obverse of the ingot displays intricate star clusters with a seventh dazzling Argyle Pink Diamond in the centre surrounded by a starburst. Yamagata Prefecture

The Japan Mint has an excellent programme 47 Prefectures series, that over a period of eight years starting in 2008, will release a coloured silver coin showcasing each of the Prefectures that make up the country. Just coming up for pre-order is the latest coin, the second this year, featuring Yamagata Prefecture, one of the most beautiful regions in Japan, and home to the stunning Zao National Park with its famousGoshiki Numa (Five Color Lake).

Yamagata Prefecture is located in the southwest corner of Tōhoku, facing the Sea of Japan. It borders Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture on the south, Miyagi Prefecture on the east, and Akita Prefecture on the north. All of these boundaries are marked by mountains, with most of the population residing in a limited central plain.

Yamagata Prefecture

The reverse side depicts the Mogami River and the cherries that the region is famous for. The obverse carries the series standard image of snow crystals, the crescent moon and cherry blossoms.

While the coin has a mintage of 100,000 pieces, only 10,000 of those are marked for sales outside of Japan. It’s available in a choice of packaging, a small CD-style jewel case, or a deluxe set with five stamp.It will be available in late June 2014.

Australian Comforts Fund

In 2014, the Royal Australian Mint pays tribute to the Australian Comforts Fund, a group set up here at home to «support the boys overseas” – and the next release in our highly popular Australia Remembers Series.

Formed on 24 August 1916, the association was an amalgamation of state-based organisations that had been individually formed at the beginning of the First World War to send comforts to the troops. The organisation quickly grew into a fundraising, collecting, sorting and distributing machine.

30th Anniversary of the $1 Coin- Mob of Roo’s

First issued on 14 May 1984, the $1 coin was introduced to replace the readily-damaged $1 note due to its greater durability and lower cost of production. Art teacher-turned-coin designer, Stuart Devlin – the man behind Australia’s other circulating coin designs – was again chosen to submit a piece of unique Australian artwork. 

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the issue of the first Australian $1 coin, the Royal Australian Mint has produced two coins.

New release products will be shipped from 5 May 2014.
